Southampton Streetscaping Study

Linking waterfront to community

A more pedestrian and community-oriented downtown

Description:

High Street is the principle central spine of the Southampton community. It links waterfront to the main inter-community artery and highway, and continues upward to Victoria Street and its cultural institutions. The intersection of Albert and High forms a point of arrival for first time visitors, and is marked by the Town Hall and its skyline presence.

The Study process began with review of existing documentation, including previously proposed streetscape improvements and the present High Street condition. A walking tour of the streetscape was held, with commentary and input from Project Team and Town staff. A series of Project Launch Exercises and surveys collected information about the priorities and values that informed the design investigation and the concepts that were to emerge. These values were summarized in an Information Report. The study was conducted under the direction of the BIA project team together with specific input and participation from Town staff. Support for the process was provided by the Town’s Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, and its Infrastructure & Development Services Department.

Following the draft concepts, the Town of Saugeen Shores issued an RFP to advance the designs to final concept design and detailed design, for both the High Street Streetscape Design and Cenotaph Upgrading.
